Setting Our Course
Welcome New Members
Municipal clerks are often referred to as the “hub of the wheel” ...and pride themselves on efficiently providing answers to questions, solutions to problems, and order to chaos. New clerks often hit the ground running and can quickly become overwhelmed. They may even question their ability to do the job. (Here’s a little secret...we all felt that way once upon a time!) This is where the We Share Our Services (WSOS) Mentoring Program can help.
WSOS matches experienced clerks (Mentors) with new clerks (Mentees) for a year of mentoring. Mentors are more than willing to offer advice and share their expertise with those who are just starting their clerk journey.
Mentors will work with new clerks from municipalities that are relative in size, have similar duties and are ideally in close proximity to one another. Mentors will assist Mentees with issues or questions related to agendas and minutes, dealing with their board and the public, and numerous other responsibilities of the clerk. The Mentor will also provide moral support and encouragement.
We encourage new clerks to team up with a Mentor as soon as possible. The service is free of charge and will make your first year (or any year) on the job so much easier! Simply fill out the Mentee Application and you’re on your way!
If you are interested in becoming a Mentor, please complete the Mentor Application. Your generous contribution of time, talent, and support will make a huge difference in the life of a new clerk.
To serve as a mentor you must have at least three years’ experience as a municipal clerk or deputy clerk and be willing to share your services. What a gift to be able to guide a new clerk along the way and to strengthen the bonds between NCAMC Clerks!
Completed forms should be returned to: Shannan Parrish, Town of Smithfield, PO Box 761, Smithfield, NC 27577 or Shannan.email@example.com
If you're a new clerk, we hope you will take advantage of this wonderful service.
If you're a clerk with experience, we hope you will consider serving as a mentor.
