Step Up & Step Out
Welcome New Members
Municipal clerks pride themselves on having the answers. If they don’t readily have the answers, they have the knowledge and the resources to get them. New clerks often hit the ground running and can quickly become overwhelmed. They may even question their ability to do the job. This is where WSOS (We Share Our Services) can help.
WSOS is a program through the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks that matches experienced clerks with new clerks for a year of mentoring. Experienced clerks are more than willing to offer advice and share their expertise with those who are just starting their clerk journey.
Mentor clerks will work with new clerks from municipalities that are relative in size and have similar duties, to assist them with issues or questions related to agendas and minutes, dealing with their board and the public, and numerous other responsibilities of the clerk.
Mentees need only a desire to learn and develop skills and abilities, and to seek information and opinions when the need arises.
To serve as a mentor you must have at least three years’ experience as a municipal clerk or deputy clerk and be willing to share your services.
If you are interested in being a mentor/mentee, please complete the WSOS Mentor/New Clerk Interest Form. WSOS Mentor/New Clerk Interest Form. Completed forms should be returned to: Susan Powell, Town of Mills River, 124 Town Center Drive, Mills River, NC 28759 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
If you're a new clerk, we hope you will take advantage of this wonderful service. If you're a clerk with experience, we hope you will consider serving as a mentor.
